Producer Nate Moore has hinted at a showdown between Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release on November 11, marking the end of MCU Phase 4 and Marvel’s transition into the Multiverse Saga. Capt. America: New World Order, in which Anthony Mackie makes his long-awaited debut as the new Capt. America is one of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming films. There are plans to start shooting the fourth Captain America movie in the spring of 2023, with a May 3, 2024, release date.

Sam Wilson’s journey as Captain America will continue in Captain America: New World Order, which will begin where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off. Danny Ramirez, who played Joaquin Torres, and Carl Lumbly, who played Isaiah Bradley in the limited series, were both revealed to return to their respective roles in the next feature while production was still in the pre-production stages. Tim Blake Nelson will portray the Leader, Shira Haas will play Sabra, and Harrison Ford will step in for William Hurt as General “Thunderbolt” Ross. Moore provides one of the earliest looks at Ford’s position in Captain America: New World Order, further proving that his arrival to the MCU has been excellent for the series.

Thunderbolt Ross appears to be a potential stumbling block for the new Captain America. In a recent interview with Collider, Moore hinted at the tension between the general and Sam Wilson, prompting a reminder that Ross placed Sam in jail at the end of Captain America: Civil War. Read the entire quote by Moore down below:

“Well, look, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, he is going to bring his own team to play. It’s no secret that Samuel Sterns is making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is fantastic because Tim Blake Nelson’s the best. Harrison Ford is taking on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and seeing Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross, which, if you remember, actually threw him in prison at the end of the Civil War because he violated the Sokovia Accords. So there’s going to be some natural sparks there, which I think are going to be really fun.”

The MCU and Marvel Comics fans who see the next Captain America film won’t be shocked to see Ross and Sam butting heads. A villain since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, the general was last seen in the MCU in 2021’s Black Widow, where he was hot on the trail of Natasha Romanoff. In the comic books, Ross transforms into the Red Hulk so that he can finally hold his own against the Hulk. However, Nelson’s the Leader, who has experience dealing with gamma radiation, was already established as the villain, making Ross’s participation in Captain America: New World Order all the more intriguing. This may suggest that Red Hulk’s backstory will be featured in Captain America: New World Order, making the hero defend against two foes instead of one.

Naturally, Marvel has yet to formally announce Red Hulk. Sam’s battle with Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: New World Order may or may not be connected to the general’s actions in Civil War, and he may have to face the challenges of being an unofficial superhero once more. Even said, Ford is rumored to be returning to the role for Thunderbolts. Thus, the appearance of the Red Hulk is not far off. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga develops, fans will need to stay on the lookout for further information.
