With the release of NPD Group’s latest monthly sales report, it is officially confirmed that Elden Ring stole the show. The report revealed the list of games and consoles that sold the best in June 2022. Elden Ring once again was on top of the best-seller list.

Elden Ring has been maintaining its position as the best-selling game in the US since its launch in February in terms of revenue in dollars. However, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga momentarily stole the show by reaching the top for the month of April.

From Software Inc. developed Elden Ring with the project of winning the title of 2022’s best-selling game in the US. From the look of it, we can say that it has outpaced even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. For some, it is a big achievement. However, it is not an entirely justified comparison for many other gamers. The reason is that Elden Ring was launched in February, while Modern Warfare 2 arrived in the last days of October.

As for software, Overwatch has climbed back into the ranking charts in the fifth position for the first time after October 2019. People are giving credit to the Overwatch 2 beta that started on June 28 and pushed the game back into the charts.

Another game to have a big surge is Final Fantasy VII: Remake. It ended on 9th position in the June 2022 charts. It’s a tremendously big jump from its place at 159th position a month back. According to NPD, the promotional events for the 25th anniversary of the game helped the upsurge in sales.

Regarding hardware, the PS5 came out to be the most selling in terms of dollars. On the other hand, the Switch became the best-selling console for June 2022 in terms of units sold. However, the PS5 continues to pick up steam, as it saw a growth in double-digit ratio for dollar sales this year compared to June 2021. Furthermore, the NPD group elaborates that total spending on consoles dropped by 8% year-on-year in June 2022 and fell to 371 million dollars.

The spending ratio on mobile games has dipped by 10.7% year-on-year. The substantial decline attributes mainly to the lower results on Google Play. However, Apple’s App Store gained the spending year-over-year, but only by the ratio of 0.16%. Candy Crush Saga, Pokemon Go, Roblox, Evony, Coin Master, The King’s Return, Diablo Immortal, Royal Match, Bingo Blitz, Clash of clans, and the State of Survival: Zombie War are some of the highest-earning games of June 2022.

The PS5 DualSense midnight black controller became June 2022’s best-selling item in the accessories category. However, overall spending on accessories declined by 15% year-on-year to 176 million dollars in June 2022.

Across the categories of games, accessories, and consoles, total spending on video games in the US for the month of June 2022 fell by 11% year-over-year to reach 4.3 billion dollars. On the other hand, spending on subscriptions elevated year over year. However, the rise is insufficient to offset the dip in every other category. Likewise, spending dropped 10% to 26.3 billion dollars for the first half of 2022. All in all, subscription content came out to be the only category to enjoy growth.
