A plowing incident has left actor Jeremy Renner in critical but stable condition. Renner, widely recognized for his role as Hawkeye/Clint Barton in the MCU, had to suffer a plowing accident on Sunday. The accident resulted in an emergency transfer to the hospital, where he is currently being treated and moving toward recovery.
Besides playing Hawkeye in MCU, he has also starred in the Taylor Sheridan series Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+ and will appear in the upcoming Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye. The second season will debut on the streaming service in a few days.
Renner was plowing on Sunday when he had a “weather-related accident,” as reported by Variety. While the specifics of the accident site have not been released, it appears to have occurred in or near the Nevada home Renner owns. That region saw significant snowfall on Saturday night (as per the Reno Gazette-Journal). At this time, details are scarce, but the actor’s representative released a statement confirming his stable condition:
“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today. His family is with him, and he is receiving excellent care.”
Hopefully, as the actor improves, we’ll learn more about Renner’s health situation. As for his next acting credit, he will appear in the second season’s January 15 premiere of Mayor of Kingstown. Also, this year, he’ll drop a new Disney+ series called Rennervations. The show is about the people who made the opioid painkiller OxyContin. Aside from that, many have wondered if Renner will ever return to the popular franchises he’s been a part of.
As of Thor in 2011, his most notable role is as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Disney+ series Hawkeye was his most significant moment in the franchise, though some have speculated that it may have been the hero’s final appearance. The series introduced Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a fan-favorite comic book character who doubles as Hawkeye. Neither Steinfeld nor Renner has been officially confirmed to appear in any upcoming Marvel films as of yet. Hawkeye wasn’t promoted as Renner’s farewell, so there’s hope he’ll return. A return could occur either in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025) or its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars (2026). Renner’s Hawkeye may be included in the massive casts of well-known characters those films will assemble.
Besides the MCU, Renner has made two appearances in the Mission: Impossible series. Renner’s central role in the action franchise stems from his portrayal of analyst William Brandt in both Rogue Nation and Ghost Protocol. Although his participation in this year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has not been confirmed, he may show up in the film’s potential sequel. With Dead Reckoning Parts 1 & 2 being promoted as the series’ “finale,” it would make sense for Brandt to make a comeback for the finale. However, at this time, most of this is still conjecture. The situation with Renner should become more apparent as time goes on.
