Recently, Dominic Monaghan, playing Merry in The Lord of the Rings, has shared high hopes for The Rings of Power’s cast. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the ring (LOTR) trilogy was first released in the span of 2001 to 2003. The saga is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy was released from 2001 to 2003. The epic fantasy films soon became a phenomenon. The franchise is considered one of the most influential film series. The trilogy was nominated for several Academy Awards. However, in 2004. the third installment, Return of the King, won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Monaghan was Merry Brandybuck in all three films, one of the hobbits following Frodo to Mordor.
Amazon Prime Video purchased the rights to a Lord of the Rings TV series in November 2017 for $250 million. Filming began on season 1 in February 2020. However, the series title was only revealed as The Lord of the Rings, The Rings of Power in January 2022. The series won’t follow the same plot lines as Lord of the Rings or its prequel film, The Hobbit. Instead, the series shows events from thousands of years in the past and will focus on Sauron’s rise and the forging of the powerful rings. Prime Video has high hopes for this project as it is expected to be the most expensive show of all time.
Monaghan spoke exclusively to Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con and said he hopes for the best for the Rings of Power cast. Amazed to see The Rings of Power promoted around him, Monaghan shares his hopes for the next generation of Tolkien actors.
Monaghan has moved on to several other projects after LOTR, including the J.J. Abrams series Lost and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Monaghan currently appears in the Audible special Moriarty, The Devil’s Game. However, he still remembers the years of filming and film releases with great affection and nostalgia. He hopes the Rings of Power cast can do the same. Monaghan knows how amazing it is to work in Middle-earth. His comments, hoping the Rings of Power star embrace the same glory, must have been rooted in his own experience. Lord of the Rings flew by, and now the hobbit wants people to appreciate what they have.
The ensemble cast makes Lord of the Rings stand out from other series of films. Many cast members remain close friends, today because they developed a strong bond with each other off-screen. Monaghan was well-known for his role in The Lord of the Rings. But it is the relationships and the experiences that Monaghan remembers the most about his time on set. He wants the same for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power cast, Monaghan’s sweet way of passing the baton to Middle-earth’s newest ensemble, is an excellent expression of his love for the project.
