Images from the upcoming holiday action film Red One on Prime Video with Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans have been released. Note that Johnson has finally made his DC Comics Universe debut in the critically acclaimed Black Adam film. While we all know Evans’ portrayal of Steve Rogers/Captain America has made him a household name in the MCU.
Johnson and Evans, two of the biggest names in Hollywood, are known for appearing in competing cinematic universes. However, that’s about to change for the time being with the release of Red One on Prime Video. Johnson is no stranger to putting in work for large streaming platforms. He participated in the Netflix spy thriller Red Notice alongside other superstars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. Evans is also familiar to the streaming service, having previously starred in the 2022 Russo Brothers action picture The Gray Man.
However, it’s evident that Johnson and Evans aren’t tied to Netflix alone since they’re both streaming Red One on Amazon Prime Video. The film’s plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but fans can check out some photographs from the set, courtesy of The Daily Mail. The images show a bearded Evans and a clean-shaven Johnson in characters.
What do we know about Red One?
Even though Die Hard established the genre of the holiday action film, the concept of an action film set over the Christmas season is still novel. While the specifics of Red One’s story are being kept under wraps for the time being, producer Hiram Garcia has hinted at the film’s tone by drawing comparisons to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Hobbs & Shaw and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition, Garcia has hinted at “crazy mythological themes” and “global-trotting” in the film and a promise that it will parody traditional components of holiday comedies. Red One also benefits from a stellar cast that includes notable actors like Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, J.K. Simmons, and Nick Kroll, in addition to Johnson and Evans.
For a film like Red One, in which Johnson was reputedly paid $50 million, you can guarantee Amazon Prime Video will pull out all the stops to promote it as a must-see holiday film. Of course, the presence of Evans is a wild card, as the actor has tried to distance himself from his virtuous Captain America image by portraying some less-likable roles and may try to do so again in Red One. Nevertheless, Evans and Johnson’s chemistry in what promises to be an exciting and amusing action movie will be fascinating to watch. The anticipated release date for Red One on Prime Video is the 2023 winter holiday season.
