The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Marvel has chosen Shang-Chi’s director Cretton to helm the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Previously, the news was out that Russo Brothers would not be directing the next MCU big project. It raised speculation regarding the release of the next Avengers movie. However, the current revelation has eliminated all the doubts from our minds. We can now expect the release of Avengers: Kang dynasty or the next one, Secret Wars, on time.
Cretton, who introduced Shang Chi to the MCU, will take the job. Cretton signed an all-deal with Marvel, which includes a Wonder Man adaptation and a sequel to Shang-Chi. Cretton is not yet confirmed to direct Secret Wars.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the MCU’s biggest team-up film, will close Phase 6 along with Secret Wars. Kang Dynasty is set to be released on May 2, 2025. Secret Wars will follow six months later, on November 7, 2025.
Although plot details are still being worked out, we do know that the MCU is now officially in the Multiverse Saga. Kang, played by Jonathan Majors, has made one of his appearances on Disney+ thanks to Loki. Majors will reprise his role as Kang in the Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, which will be released on February 17, 2023, and kick off Phase 5.
Cretton’s last MCU movie, Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings, introduced Shang-Chi, a kung-fu champion, and Toney Leung, a cinema legend, as the villain. IGN praised ShangChi for having the MCU’s best fight choreography and a confident introduction of Marvel’s first Asian hero.
