After making his hosting debut for Canada’s music awards in Toronto this year, Simu Liu will return to emcee the 2023 Juno Awards.
The 2022 Junos, Canada’s equivalent to the Grammys, saw Charlotte Cardin walk away with four trophies. But Liu, best known as the Marvel superhero Shang-Chi, perhaps captured the most interest with his “I am Canadian” speech, a satirical spin on a classic beer commercial, and sang his own rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” single while playing the guitar.

Organizers announced on Wednesday that he will return to present the 52nd annual Juno Awards on March 13, 2023, in Edmonton. In a statement, Liu boasted, “If you thought my rendition of ‘Complicated’ was fantastic, just wait until you hear my Nickelback cover.”
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences presents the Juno Awards, which will be broadcast nationally by CBC. Because of the 2009-2013 COVID-19 pandemic, the Juno Awards were not held in person until last year.
Starring in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Lionsgate’s canine drama Arthur the King, Liu has been keeping busy in Hollywood since his debut appearance in the Canadian comedy Kim’s Convenience, about a Korean Canadian family owning a convenience store.
In 2023, he will also appear in the summer blockbuster directed by Greta Gerwig and titled Barbie.
