The film Black Adam, releasing in October 2022, is based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name. Black Adam is the 11th movie in the DC Extended Universe and a spin-off from the 2019 film Shazam! It is produced by New Line Cinema, DC Films, Seven Bucks Productions, and FlynnPictureCo (DCEU). The film stars Dwayne Johnson as the title character, along with Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, Marwan Kenzari, and Pierce Brosnan. It was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani.
Dwayne Johnson expressed in a recent interview that “the whole point” of fetching Black Adam to the big screen in a standalone project is to make a future movie one day with a Superman showdown. Johnson told CinemaBlend that this has long been the goal for this character.
“I have been saying for some time, there’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin,” Johnson said. “And what I meant by that was introducing a brand-new character. It’s not a sequel, not an existing IP… Two years ago, the world had no idea who [Black Adam] was. We did, but not the rest of the masses out there. What I really meant by, ‘This is a new era in the DC Universe’ is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want.”
Johnson claims that putting up Superman against Black Adam will immensely satisfy the fans. A fan at Comic-Con this summer wanted to know who would win in a fight between Black Adam and Superman. Johnson was quoted as saying via Variety:
“It depends who’s playing Superman.”
Soon, we may find out who will play Superman in the next movie and who will win in the final showdown.
On October 21, you can buy a copy of Black Adam. In addition, some of the Justice Society of America’s most prominent members, such as Dr Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), will make their debut in the DCCU through this upcoming release.
