According to the sources, Warner Bros. Discovery has possibly found its Kevin Feige version for DCEU.
THR reports Dan Lin is being considered for the new company’s DC chief role. He would have broad control over television and film. Lin would directly report to CEO David Zaslav and bypass multiple division heads in this role.
Lin has a long history at Warner Bros. as an executive producer. His projects include The Lego Movie, It, and Godzilla: King of Monsters. Lin has been named one of the “30 most powerful film producers in Hollywood”.
THR reports that Lin was supported by Alan Horn, a former Disney chair, who orchestrated the reorganization that gave Feige such power at Marvel Studios.
Walter Hamada, who is currently DC Films’ chief executive, will reportedly be leaving the role. Hamada was reported to be on the verge of quitting due to the cancellation of Batgirl but decided to remain on at least until Black Adam’s October 21 release.
Lin’s hiring process is still complicated. Variety reports Lin is involved with several Disney projects, including a live-action Lilo & Stitch. If Lin were to connect with WB Discovery, Lin’s ties would need to be resolved. On the contrary, Variety reports that there has not been any offer yet.
Lin, if he is hired, will face several major challenges. Lin will also need to deal with the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller. He headlines The Flash, ostensibly intended to be a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman, and The Lost Kingdom were all delayed recently. The cancelation of the Batgirl movie is icing on the cake.
Zaslav has clarified that he wants to be in a DC role similar to Feige’s. Feige enjoys a large influence as the head of Marvel Studios. Zaslav might be able to recruit Lin if he succeeds.
